Toddler Activities
Kindergartens and Homework:
Homework has been a part of schooling since schooling began and it’s a great way to teach children about having responsibilities and managing their time effectively. But when is it too young to start.
It seems to becoming ever more common, to see kids in Kindergarten receiving homework. What’s happen to the days when kids were able to be just that “kids” and not have to worry about such things as doing homework until the third grade?
The homework that seems to be given to toddlers at kindergarten obviously is at a level that would encourage fun with learning, and it also seems to be a way of encouraging parents to participate more with their toddler’s education beginning at an early age.
It may seem that this type of homework designed to involve parents more into their child’s early education is a bit extreme and unnecessary, but as it turns out, studies have shown that the majority of parents need this type of encouragement to push them along, in helping their child’s education.
Now this seems a great way to encourage great family involvement in education but when is it too much for children as at that age, it feels as if they should be acting as children and not as students.
Most of the Kindergarten homework is pretty simple and consist of manly observational work, but when and if it became a daily ritual and homework took an hour to do each night, I think it could get to excessive.
There is nothing wrong with teaching Kids and Toddlers at an early age as this is the time when they are most receptive and able to learn and at kindergarten age it is the perfect time. However, traditionally kids would take great lessons from playing fun games and singing songs and making friends and creating role playing games.
So should the children be worried about completing their homework after a day at kindergarten instead of playing and having fun? They are growing up way to fast as it is, so maybe we need to take a step back and let kids just be that “kids”.

Wow, this is a beautiful website. I love the organization – especially the rotating featured products.
I have an almost 2 year old and I am a big fan of challenging him with educational toys.
I am also a big fan of websites that organize it all for me in one place and give me new ideas.
Thank you for this site, I will bookmark it for sure.
I’m not a fan of the idea of homework for kindergarteners. Parents should be free to pick their own types of educational activities to do at home.
I agree that homework for kindergartners seems to be a bit much. Although the classroom does need consistency, so if some kids need the additional work to catch up it guess I’d understand that. Our kids seem to learn best from interaction with us as we do normal everyday stuff – explaining as we go…
LeapFrog Leap pads are so much fun, the learning doesn’t seem like work at all!
Thanks for the great post!
Great post on educating toddlers with toys! Being a mother of 2 years old kid its really useful for me. Franking speaking deciding on what toddler educational toy to buy is not that easy as it seems to be.In fact I am very impressed by the list of your featured products. The video incorporated along with this article is also very interesting.
Toddlers grow both physically and mental by leaps and bounds during this stage of development. It is so much fun finding educational toys for your toddler; they find everything exciting. Since children learn through play, we as parents (and grandparents) need to provide lots of quality play time everyday. As for homework, agree it gives parents a reason to connect with their child and their education but it should be a review of what they learned in class that day.
Educating Toddlers with the help of toys is indeed a great idea. Based on my personal experience with my daughter I found that kids learn very fast with the help of toys. It’s great fun to see them enjoying their toys as well as learning. But parents should make sure to buy age specific educational toys which are very beneficial for the growing kids.
I do agree that educational toddler toys which are widely available these days help children develop their skills at an early age. there are various toys and games for toddlers which provides visual entertainment, and also help to enhance their learning skills and provide educational benefits.
Excellent information on the educating toddlers with toys! I found your website very interesting as well as informative. It is always important to consider those kind of educational toys which can help in the early development of a child. Simple things such as toddler toys could help them become smart.
I do think completing homework is important. The lessons learned from accomplishing a task is more important than the assignment itself. In a day and age of instant gratification, our kids need to know the true value of goal setting and achieving.
Thanks for this interesting post! I am sure it is very helpful for lots of parents like me. It is very true that traditionally kids would take great lessons from playing fun games and singing songs and making friends and creating role playing games.
I am against homework in kindergartens. Parents should be able to chose their very own method of educating their children!
Its good to have fun learning tools for your kids to learn so they won’t be lazy and think its boring. When buying gifts for my nieces and nephews, I always buy them learning toys and they enjoy it.
its very difficult to buy a toddler education toy.
Just make sure the toys are also fun for the toddlers. It seems like we’re expecting so much more form the very young these days.
I think it is important for school children to do homework, but a kindergarten? I think that is more like PC Parenting in overdrive!
I agree with this. I always want my little kids to be busy on something like arts and simple crafts because this helps brain development plus they could show their creativity.
educational toys really help enrich the knowledge of our children.
One of the above commentors raised a great point about stimulating creativity. Kids don’t get as much stimulation in this area as they should be getting, especially in school where all focus is dedicated to math, literature, and the sciences. A toy is a great way to supplement whatever little creative activity your children might be already getting.
Educational games are a great way for kids to learn things for sure. Board games are one thing but there are of course also computer games.. but with the amount of game titles out there it’s probably a good idea for parents to keep an eye out for what kind of content their children stumbles into while surfing the web.
